Together we can build brighter futures and stronger communities through reading! 

Forward Scholars provides one-to-one, in-school tutoring for 1st–3rd grade students who are not yet reading at grade level. Each student is paired with a trained community volunteer who tutors twice a week using individualized lesson plans created by Site Coordinators - credentialed teachers with literacy expertise. Lessons are guided by assessment data and adapted throughout the year to meet each child’s needs. In 2024–2025, Forward Scholars served 267 students across nine Milwaukee Public Schools. On average, students made nearly two years of growth in reading accuracy and fluency in just seven months of tutoring. In 2025–2026, we will serve more than 300 students at 10 schools with the support of over 300 trained community volunteers
