First Sunday of Advent, November 28th: The Annunciation
The angel Gabriel announced to Mary that she would give birth to God’s Son, Jesus. Mary was surprised and confused: How was this possible? She was young, poor, and unmarried. But Gabriel assured Mary that God had chosen her to give birth to a Son, the Savior of the world. Mary responded, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord.”

Second Sunday of Advent, December 5th: Mary & Elizabeth
Mary rushed to share the surprising news of her pregnancy with her cousin Elizabeth, who was also pregnant. At Mary’s greeting, the baby jumped in Elizabeth’s womb. Filled with the Holy Spirit, Elizabeth proclaimed that Mary was blessed among women. Rejoicing at the great news, Mary sang a song of praise to God.

Third Sunday of Advent, December 12th: Jesus is Born
Responding to the call for a census, Mary and Joseph journeyed to Bethlehem to be registered. While there, Mary gave birth to Jesus and laid him in a manger. An angel surprised the shepherds, announcing the birth of God’s Son. The sky erupted as a choir of angels sang praises to God, and the shepherds rushed to meet the new baby.

Fourth Sunday of Advent, December 19th: The Magi
Magi followed the star in the sky to find the baby who would be king of the Jews. King Herod, angry that there was someone else called “ruler,” told the magi to let him know where the baby was. After bringing gifts to Jesus, the magi returned home another way, never revealing to Herod where Jesus was.
