God wanted Jonah to preach a
message to the people of Nineveh,
but Jonah didn’t want to go. When
Jonah tried to escape God’s calling, his
resistance landed him in a giant fish! No
one can hide when God calls.
After Naomi’s sons and husband died,
Naomi decided to return to Judah, her
homeland. She told her two daughtersin-law, Ruth and Orpah, to return to
their own families. Orpah left, but Ruth
refused to leave Naomi. The two women
traveled together to Judah to start a
new life together
God sent Samuel to anoint one of
Jesse’s sons as the next king of Israel.
Jesse had many sons who were older
and stronger, but God did not pick
them. God was looking on the inside,
not the outside. God chose David, the
smallest and youngest of Jesse’s sons,
to be the next king of Israel.
The Israelite army was in the midst of
a battle, but nobody wanted to fight
the giant warrior, Goliath. To everyone’s
surprise, young David, the shepherd,
volunteered to fight Goliath. David
believed God would be with him. David
knew he already had what he needed.
With just a sling and a stone, David
defeated Goliath.
Solomon wanted to build a temple
where the Israelites would keep the ark
of the covenant, the chest holding the
10 Commandments. After seven years
of building, the finished product was
enormous, beautiful, and covered in
gold. Solomon believed he had created
a place where God could dwell forever.
Hosanna! The people shouted and
cheered as Jesus rode a humble
donkey into Jerusalem during the
festival of Passover. They waved palms
to celebrate his arrival and laid their
cloaks on the ground to welcome him.
This event is what we celebrate today
on Palm Sunday.

Jesus and the disciples shared the
Passover meal together. Knowing it
was the last supper before his death,
Jesus told the disciples to remember
him by eating the bread—his body,
and drinking the wine—his blood.
After supper, the disciples fell asleep
while Jesus prayed in the Garden
of Gethsemane. Led by Judas, the
betrayer, the Roman authorities arrived
and arrested Jesus. Everyone scattered.

Jesus was put on trial and sentenced
to be crucified. The crowds mocked
him, and the soldiers placed a crown of
thorns on his head. Jesus was crucified
on a cross at the same time as two other
criminals, while the crowds shouted
angrily at him. Mary Magdalene and Mary,
Jesus’ mother, watched as Jesus died.
He was buried that day in a tomb.
The women who were close to Jesus
went to the tomb to give him a proper
burial. When they arrived, they were
surprised to see the tomb was open
and Jesus’ body was gone. An angel
appeared and told them that Jesus was
alive! They ran to spread the good news
to the disciples.
